FREEDOM TO CHOOSE – YOUR OPTIONS FOR SURGERY

Our Centre can offer you eye surgery for any medically necessary eye operation. We are naturally well aware of the cares and concerns that anyone has when they face the prospect of undergoing a surgical operation. Our experience enables us to work together in a relaxed atmosphere, giving us the freedom necessary to cater specifically to your individual needs. Our wealth of surgical know-how also offers you a wide choice of local anaesthetic procedures – if you wish to stay awake and therefore do not want a general anaesthetic or conscious sedation. Options available here even include the use of local anaesthetic eye drops to avoid any need for an injection. The fact that our Centre can essentially handle any eye operation, no matter how demanding, means you can face even smaller-scale surgery such as lens operations for cataracts confident in the knowledge that your medical team is able to draw on many years of surgical experience.

OUTPATIENT OPERATIONS AT OUR CENTRE – CLEANLINESS, WELL-BEING AND LONG-TERM PROSPECTS

To create an environment where patients receive the safest and most advanced treatment possible but which does not feel like an operating theatre: this was our goal when we opened our unique surgical facility with the highest possible hygiene classification and a wonderful, panoramic view of the Alexandrovka. At our Centre, you can expect to enjoy the latest technical and hygienic standards typical in a hospital – but without that hospital feeling or hospital germs. All of our operating theatres are equipped with laminar flow clean-air systems. All outpatient operations are performed directly on our premises. All preparatory medical examinations – including patient prepping by our anaesthetist – are also performed in our Centre. If you are travelling from far away, our team will ensure the perfect organisation of your pre-, peri- and post-operational exams so these can be completed in a single visit (max. two-day stay for retina operations). The friendly and relaxed atmosphere created by our experienced team quickly helps you to forget your worries about the operation. You are also welcome to stay overnight in one of our delightful rooms, where we attend to your every need.

PERSONAL ANAESTHETICS, PERSONAL OPERATIONS – OUR EXTRAS FOR YOU

Our motto “As little as possible, as much as necessary” also applies here. Before your operation, you can discuss your questions and personal needs for the anaesthetic procedure with our experienced anaesthetist. Our Centre offers all of the latest anaesthetic techniques. Working closely with you, we provide advice tailored precisely to your needs and based on our many decades of experience. We make every effort to ensure that your stay with us is as pleasant as possible. We hope that this encourages you to tell us all about your special needs, cares or concerns, thus enabling us to provide you with a highly-personalised and individual programme of treatment. We are happy to provide help beyond our usual spectrum of services and offer holistic treatments both pre- and post-op so as to provide optimal support to your body’s powers of self-healing or stimulate the process of healing after complications. All to ensure you achieve the best possible result. Please talk to us for more details.

OUTPATIENT OPERATIONS – PROCEDURE

If a diagnosis from our Centre or your ophthalmologist reveals that eye surgery is necessary, we will conduct a preliminary medical exam on our premises and book you in for an operation. Your GP will give you various documents for your operation and you will need to make an appointment with our anaesthetist. If you wish – and especially if you are making a longer journey to us – we are happy to organise a more compact schedule that fits into a single day. >When time is at a premium.

You can visit our practice for your operation and go home on the same day about 2–4 hours later. For retina operations, we will need to perform the first important check-up the morning after your surgery. If you are not a patient at our practice, subsequent check-ups will then take place locally at your ophthalmologist, with whom we will be in constant contact and who will receive full details of your operation.

If a post-operation check-up is needed on the following morning, patients who do not live nearby or who have no-one at home to travel with are very welcome to make use of the accommodation we offer.

If you live out of town but have a travelling companion, you are of course welcome to stay overnight in one of the pleasant hotels Potsdam has to offer. Please contact our Centre for further details on overnight stays.

WHEN TIME IS AT A PREMIUM

For patients who live a long way away or require a compact operation timetable for other reasons, we offer the option of limiting the steps that need to be completed before and after your operation to as few appointments and procedures as possible. Here, we can offer you a package of the quickest and most effective procedures. Depending on your surgery and the effort required in pre-op examinations, we can offer you what we term our “One and Only Operation” appointments: the Cataract One and OnlyOperation and the RetinaOne and Only Operation.

CATARACT ONE AND ONLY: THE FAST-TRACK PROCEDURE

Your pre-assessment, anaesthetist appointment and operation all take place on the same day. This fast-track procedure has a number of conditions, however, namely:your ophthalmologist has diagnosed your condition as requiring surgery, you are sure you want to go ahead with the operation and you bring your doctor’s medical findings with you on the day of the operation. The procedure is then as follows:On the day of your appointment, you arrive in the morning and receive all of the necessary pre-op exams. You will be operated on during the day and can return home (accompanied by your travelling companion) about 2 hours after surgery. On the following morning, you visit your ophthalmologist for the first check-up and for all subsequent check-ups. If you wish, you can also visit our practice on the following morning, and we will then perform the first post-op check-up. You can also stay overnight at our Centre or at a hotel of your choice and return home after your check-up.

RETINA ONE AND ONLY: THE FAST-TRACK PROCEDURE

Your pre-assessment, anaesthetist appointment and operation all take place over 2–3 days. This fast-track procedure has a number of conditions, however, namely:your ophthalmologist has diagnosed your condition as requiring surgery, you are sure you want to go ahead with the operation and you bring your doctor’s medical findings with you on the day of the operation. The procedure is then as follows:Your pre-assessments, anaesthetist appointment and operation (for emergencies in particular) all take place on the same day – or the retina surgery itself takes place on the following day. Since the first check-up following a retina operation generally takes place at our Centre, patients from further away are welcome to spend up to two nights at our Centre or (with a companion) at a hotel. Once the first check-up is complete, you will usually be able to return home and later check-ups will be performed by your ophthalmologist.
